Our providers, along with the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, recommend that children visit a pediatric dentist by their first birthday.  Or when their first tooth erupts.

More than 21% of American children between the ages of 2 and 5 have cavities.  Left untreated, these cavities can cause pain or lead to infection.

Routine preventative checkups allow us to monitor your child’s oral development, detect potential decay at the beginning stages, and promote healthy oral hygiene habits starting at a young age.

Children should see a pediatric dentist every six months.  If your child is experiencing recurring tooth decay or cavities, it may be necessary to visit more frequently.

If you have questions regarding your child’s oral health or development—don’t hesitate to consult with one of our providers at your next appointment.

At Fort Smith Pediatric Dental Group, we understand that your child’s first dentist appointment is a significant milestone.  Our staff is on a mission to make this first visit stress-free, fun, and a positive experience—for both you and your child!

During your first visit, you can expect the following:

  • Inviting waiting room with the latest in electronics: Our spacious waiting room has big-screen TVs (with your child’s favorite movies on repeat), touch-and-play screen gaming systems, and classic arcade games.  A successful trip starts with fun!

A thorough cleaning and examination: Your child’s first appointment typically consists of a thorough cleaning by an experienced assistant and an oral examination by one of our board-certified providers.  This initial evaluation is crucial in identifying potential issues at the beginning stages.  In the event your child should need additional restorative treatment, a personalized treatment plan will be discussed during your visit.

  • X-rays (if necessary): Depending on your child’s age and oral history, your provider may recommend dental x-rays.  These are not only safe—but a necessary measure to accurately assess your child’s oral health.

If you have specific questions or concerns, don’t hesitate to consult with your provider during your child’s appointment.

Every smile is different.  We offer a wide range of services to meet the unique needs of each child.

Basic Services Include:

  • Routine cleanings
  • Dental exams
  • Sealants
  • Fillings
  • X-Rays
  • Dental crowns
  • Orthodontics (located on the 2nd floor!).

X-rays are a valuable tool that helps our team provide the best possible care for your child’s oral health.  The safety of your child is our top priority.  Our team takes every precaution to ensure the well-being of your child when obtaining x-rays.

X-rays allow us to see areas of the mouth that aren’t visible during an examination.  X-rays help in the early detection of cavities, monitoring the development of permanent teeth, and the overall health of the jaw and bone structure.

Necessity depends on your child’s oral health, age, and individual needs.
